Authority Overview

The Greene County Development Authority is made up of six members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners and the cities of Greensboro and Union Point.  The Authority is a State of Georgia constitutionally chartered authority, which enables it more freedom than the statutory authority.  We operate on a fiscal year (October 1 through September 30) with our operating budget provided by the County, Greensboro, Union Point, Siloam, White Plains, and Woodville.

Chairman: Mr. Jim Hudson
Vice Chairman: Mr. Mark Lipscomb
Secretary/Treasurer: Mr. Wayne Jackson
Members:  Mr. John Myers
                    Mr. Vincent Lewis
                    Mr. Rabun Neal

We engage a paid professional to handle the daily activities of the authority.  The Director of Economic Development is housed in the Greene County Chamber of Commerce building in Greensboro, and works Monday through Thursday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.  The Authority meets at 8:00 am on the second Tuesday of each month at the Greensboro City Hall.

The Authority works actively with the Lake Oconee Area Development Authority to promote the lake area.  We host the Greene County Manufacturers Council in support of our existing industry program. We are responsible for the sale and upkeep of the Greene County Industrial Park. We coordinate our marketing program with the Georgia Department of Economic Development, Georgia Power Company, the Georgia Electrical Membership Corporation and other statewide economic development professionals.

We act as the central point of contact for business interested in a Greene County location.  We maintain a complete listing of available sites and buildings suitable for industrial use as well as demographics and supporting data essential to new and existing industry expansion.  We work very closely with local schools and universities in order to improve our education system, our work force skills, and to setup QuickStart training programs for new industry. We were the 3rd County to become “Certified Work Ready”
